On November 26, 2014, U.S. EPA proposed a more stringent national ambient air quality standard for ozone. The proposal reduces the current ozone standard of 75 parts per billion (ppb) to a level that is proposed to be between 65 and 70 ppb. On December 17, 2014 the official version of U.S. EPA’s proposal was published in the Federal Register. Comments on the proposed rule must be submitted by March 17, 2015.

What this means to you
EPA’s proposed lower limits for ozone will cause numerous U.S. counties to be in violation of lower ozone standards based on 2011-2013 monitoring. Lower emission standards for ozone creating emissions of NOx and VOCs may be required.
