MIRATECH Introduces Tier V System to Raise the Bar on Environmental Benefits.

July 26, 2020

Tulsa, Oklahoma – July 7, 2020 – MIRATECH Corporation, a global industry leader providing cost-effective, reliable, and mission critical emissions and acoustics solutions for stationary natural gas and diesel reciprocating engines, is pleased to launch its Tier V emissions reduction system for a higher level of net environmental benefit and to set the standard for what is available in control technologies.

“In today’s world of heightened climate action and environmental stewardship, many users are looking to retrofit their generators with emissions reduction technology that surpasses the EPA’s and local air boards’ requirements,” said David Zenthoefer, CEO of MIRATECH. “We are giving those users an answer to the question of how to make meaningful reductions of their carbon footprint while continuing to supply clean and reliable power, specifically related to the growing demand for clean data centers.”

With the boom of cloud-based computing technology and increasing consumption of data, data centers are increasingly looking for ways to consume cleaner energy. They often receive questions about their use of backup diesel generators, which are utilized if the site’s primary source of energy fails.

“There is a common misconception that a diesel generator is unequivocally a dirty form of energy,” said Jim McDonald, Director of Environmental Impact for MIRATECH. “Diesel generators with Tier V level of control can provide some of the cleanest, most cost-effective and reliable power available. We provide full consultations showing how the average Tier V performing diesel engine can have cleaner emissions output and less harmful costs to society than the average power delivered to a facility through the grid.”

Past regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) required diesel engines to comply with pollution control standards only for certain Criteria pollutants such as Nitrous Oxides (NOx), Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), Particulate Matter (PM), and Carbon Monoxide (CO). MIRATECH’s Tier V system moves the industry forward by allowing users to reduce not only EPA criteria pollutant emissions, but also harmful Air Toxics, such as Formaldehyde and PAHs, and Global Warming Potential (GWP) emissions. These reductions will provide both permit compliance and operational flexibility without sacrificing overall reliability.

Currently, EPA regulations require that diesel generators be equipped with Tier 2 compliant solutions with regular emissions testing in the field. Tier 4 required more stringent NOx and PM reductions by incorporating an inducement mechanism in 2011. Tier V moves beyond these regulations to offer End Users the ability to further reduce GWP emissions and provide the facility a smaller carbon footprint.

MIRATECH’s Tier V offering consists of an exhaust after-treatment system (EATS) with remote monitoring via a cloud-based software platform with ongoing data-logging. The intuitive software ensures real time emissions values will match your permitted targets at least 90% of the time, a considerable increase from Tier 4.

The Tier V EATS hardware package contains low temperature regeneration Diesel Particulate Filter technology, oxidation catalysts with unmatched Air Toxics reductions, closed loop Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology with NOx sensors, and an intuitive controls interface for operator ease of use. It is fully integrated in a low profile, compact package that does not detract from the overall aesthetics of the site location.

MIRATECH can provide in-depth consultations with full analyses of the pollution control options at your facility to meet your emissions reduction targets.
